What's Your Favorite Chinese Word and Why? 🀄

Hi everyone! I’ve been thinking a lot about how rich and expressive Chinese is. I’m from Vietnam, so I also find it super interesting to study Chinese, when a lot of Vietnamese words come from Chinese! There are so many words that carry deep meanings, evoke emotions, or just sound beautiful.

For me, my favorite Chinese word is “慢慢” (màn màn). It means “slowly” or “take your time,” and I love how it reminds me to enjoy the journey rather than rush through life. Every time I hear it, it feels calming and encouraging.

I’d love to hear yours! What’s your favorite Chinese word, and what makes it special to you? Is it the meaning, the sound, or maybe a memory connected to it?

Can’t wait to see your answers! :star2:

My favourite Chinese word is 缘分 (yuánfèn) it’s basically the idea that fate or destiny brings people together. It’s like saying, “We were meant to meet,” even if it just seemed like chance. I think it’s super cute!

My favorite word is 这个 (Zhège). Very handy when it comes to buying things.

Hi! That’s a great question.

One Chinese word I really like is 加油 (jiāyóu). Literally it means “add oil,” but it’s used to encourage someone, like saying “keep going,” “you can do it,” or “good luck.”

I like it because it’s such a positive expression and people use it in so many situations, exams, sports, work, or even when a friend is having a hard time. It’s a simple word, but it carries a lot of encouragement.
