Using AI to Learn Languages

Interested to hear if anyone is actively using AI to learn languages?

I’ve seen some interesting prompts for language learning on LinkedIn where people are dropping Duolingo and moving to AI to get serious with language learning. Seems many are getting sick and tired of keeping up a streak that a bird nudges you to do, to find you still can’t string a sentence together.

EXAMPLES

Please write a list of the most commonly used vocabulary in [TARGET LANGUAGE].
Leverage the Pareto Principle. I.e. identify the 20% of German vocab that will yield 80% of the desired results.
Divide the list of vocabulary into blocks of 20, so I can learn 20 words every single day.

I’m trying to learn how to use the word ‘[WORD]’ in [TARGET LANGUAGE].
Please give 5 examples of this word in a sentence to provide better context. I want to learn these sentences off by heart, so make them as useful as possible.
Also, provide a bit of context as to what the word is.

I want to practice the following real life scenario in [TARGET LANGUAGE]: [SCENARIO]
Please teach me the common phrases used in this common scenario. Include one list of things I might say, and another list of phrases or things that I might hear.
Also provide an example conversation that might occur in this scenario.

I also saw TTMIK (Talk to me in Korean) recently released their AI speaking app called Seyo.

AI is becoming more prevelant in language learning, and I’m interested to hear if anyone else has managed to embed it into their learning routine?

Interesting! I’ve seen a lot of backlash towards DuoLingo recently for using AI in their software, which lead to a few errors on the app - and as a learner, how are you ever going to know for sure if something is wrong in a second language?

My Chinese speaking friends also said ChatGPT sounds veryyy robotic when speaking Mandarin.

So honestly, I wouldn’t trust AI to help me learn a language. :eyes: At least for now!
