Useful Chinese Words and Phrases for Hotels 🏨 (based on my recent Chengde trip!)

Hey everyone!

Last month I had the chance to visit Chengde, a beautiful and historical city not too far from Beijing.

When I arrived, I confidently walked up to the reception and said “我有预订” (I have a reservation). The receptionist smiled and replied with a stream of rapid Chinese that I totally didn’t understand.

After a few moments of polite confusion, I handed her my passport and showed my booking on my phone. That worked. BUT — what really helped was saying:

:point_right: “这是我的预订。 (zhè shì wǒ de yùdìng)”This is my reservation.

She understood right away, found my name.

:luggage: Bonus Words

  • 入住 (rùzhù) – Check-in
  • 退房 (tuìfáng) – Check-out
  • 钥匙 (yàoshi) – Key
  • 行李 (xíngli) – Luggage
  • 电梯 (diàntī) – Elevator
  • 楼层 (lóucéng) – Floor

Next stop: Chengdu! I’ve already started practicing how to ask for an extra towel and confirm check-out time
