What do you enjoy the most when studying a new language?

One of the thing I enjoy about language learning is the cultural factor behind the language.
The other day, I came across the phrase :sun_behind_rain_cloud:“狐の嫁入り - Kitsune no yomeiri” :sun_behind_rain_cloud: on Kilala (a popular newsletter in Vietnamese which is basically all about Japan).

狐の嫁入り is a Japanese word to describe sun shower :sun_behind_rain_cloud:

狐の嫁入り is constructed with two parts: 狐 means fox, and 嫁入り means wedding. Altogether the phrase means fox wedding.

Foxes have significant meaning in Japanese culture. The origin of this word is based on a legend about the their wedding. When the foxes get married, the wedding cannot be seen by human. Therefore, they make the fake quick rain to lure people back home.

I think learning about the culture is one of the most exciting things about learning a language.

Studying Italian I learnt so mich about how people differ, not just in the north and south of the country, but from region to region.

The same can be said of Chinese, and my studies there.

Getting to know how people argue/debate about food, language, and culture is as fascinating as learning new words and sentences IMO :slight_smile:
