K Beauty and Korean Beauty Standards: Aspirational or Unrealistic?

안녕! I was just looking at this blog about Korean Beauty Standards…

…and I wondered what you guys think of the K Beauty industry? We all know aesthetic medicine is very readily available and common in Korea, but do you think that accessibility allows people to feel more confident, or does it just set the bar too high and create a lot of pressure to look a certain way?

When I was walking around Seoul, I remember seeing several people with facial bandages from recent surgeries, which is something I don’t think I’ve ever seen in the UK

I was honestly so shocked at how many advertisements I saw when getting off the metro in Gangnam. They are everywhere and unavoidable. Every wall, every ad panel, every spare space - plastic surgery adverts.

Not sure how I feel about it to be honest.

The choice also seems so much that it adds some form of pressure for people to get stuff done.

That said, Koreans certainly know how to look after themselves! Great skin everywhere you look!

Honestly I think it’s a bit crazy to see how their beauty standards are kind of opposite to their natural beauty (double eyelids are standard but 90% of them having monolids). Not necessarily a bad thing, but I do think Korean people have their own and unique attractive traits, would love to see their Koreaness becomes THE beauty standard soon (Jennie from BP is actually a good example for Koreaness)
