HSK word lists vs HSK book lesson contents

I have been using the HSK 5 上 books recently and it seems like a lot of the the vocab from the book lessons are not included in the Hack Chinese lists or HSK vocab lists.

Am I correct, that the mandatory HSK 5 vocab lists don’t include all the words from the lessons?

I assume it is to expose you to wider vocab earlier on, just wondered.

thanks!

Yes that’s right. Also in the lower levels extra words appear now and then.

The vocabulary not included in the HSK vocab lists is marked with an asterisk in the textbooks and the related Zero To Hero Chinese lessons. This is because the HSK5 books contain a lot of authentic original material from newspapers, books, etc., and also because the HSK5 exams typically contain a lot of vocabulary outside of the lists. The books alone are not enough to prepare you for the exam.

I’m not sure about Hack Chinese (@Hack-Chinese-Daniel can probably chime in), but in Skritter there are separate lists for HSK 5, HSK5 2022, and the textbooks. When you study these lists, the platform automatically recognizes the overlapped words that you’ve already mastered and marks them as studied. I suspect it’s similar in Hack Chinese.

Was looking over the Zero to Hero “Path to Fluency” this morning and this explains it quite well. The higher up you get the more your vocabulary needs to branch out from the formal “learning” you undertake

Also discovered there is a HSK textbook vocab list on Hack Chinese

There are also official LTL decks in Skritter (up to HSK 4+). They might have been already ported to Hack Chinese as well.
