Been talking to a few of our students in China and they often joke about the worries they had about coming to China before ![]()
Therefore, I wanted to dispel a few myths about learning Chinese in China:
– Veggie and Vegan food. It really does exist in China. There are genuinely so many veggie and vegan options all across China.
Here are a few examples:
– Pollution. Air quality in China is significantly better than what it was a decade ago.
Cities like Beijing used to suffer from murky skies but these days, Beijing is so much cleaner. Enjoy those blue skies!
– Western Media. Thanks to our VPN friends, you can live with your favourite apps in China as if you were at home. Lets VPN is currently the VPN of choice in China.
You can also use eSims to bypass the great firewall.
– Accents in China. Many people think that studying Chinese in Chengdu, means you’ll learn Sichuanese. Or studying Chinese in Shanghai means you can only learn Shanghainese.
This is actually incorrect. Standard Mandarin can be found throughout China. LTL has schools in Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai and Beihai, 4 very different cities in 4 very different parts of China, but all are littered with standard Mandarin speakers!
