Boren Scholarship China

Just wanted to drop this into the forum in case it benefits anyone of our US students.

LTL accepts students on the Boren Scholarship at our schools across China.

The website is here - https://www.borenawards.org/

Some key points taken from the website:

Maximum awards are determined by duration abroad:

– $25,000 for 25-52 weeks (preferred)
– $12,500 for 12-24 weeks
– $8,000 for 8-11 weeks (STEM majors only)

BOREN FELLOWSHIPS

  • $5,000 for summer domestic language study (optional)

Fund research and language study proposals by U.S. graduate students in world regions critical to U.S. interests.

Has anyone here ever been awarded a study scholarship before?

Looking back at my school days, I wish I’d taken more care with languages and done something like this!

Would love to hear stories from people who did just that

Oh that’s awesome! I’ve met quite a few scholarship students in my Chinese classes over the past few years - they usually get to study for longer and are able to focus on the language without needing to find other ways to financially support themselves during their studies.

Definitely worth applying for - wish I’d done it years ago!

LTL has had Boren Scholars study with us at LTL Taiwan and LTL Saigon so far.
Its a great program and the language progress of Boren scholars has been very impressive with the courses we have seen.

Are there others aside from Boren that are offered too?

There are a lot of them. I personally organized programs for LTL students on the the New Colombo Scholarship from Australia, the Prime Minister’s Scholarship in New Zealand, CSN from Sweden and Bildungsurlaub from Germany.
There really are quite a few scholarships around, though I have to say the Boren Scholarship is one of the best ones. Pretty tough to get and only available to US citizens though.

Nice, any from the UK?
