@Chloe-Mandarin_HSK6 @Max This should be resolved now!
I agree, especially at the current speed (medium)… soon we will turn on the other speeds (slow/fast) and you can see how those sound. We are turning on the audio for sentences later today… I think you’ll be happy with how they sound
You might try the female voice to see which you like better. Now that we have the infrastructure in place, we may add a few other voices as well…
I prefer all voices that sound deeper, normally I would choose a male voice. But I like the new female voice for words. She goes nice and low for the third tone.
I tested 一点儿, 电脑,朵.
I have a report from a user that audio stops working about five minutes into a study session when they are using a mobile device. Would anyone here mind testing a 10-minute study session with audio turned on, and then report your results. Please include the device and browser you are using, as well as if you are on WIFI or a cellular connection. Thanks!
no problems:
10 min with audio (female)

Hi again @Hack-Chinese-Daniel - my total word count has gone down by 23 words since yesterday, but I don’t know why. Do words sometimes get removed perhaps?
ps dark mode all good again, thanks!
@Chloe-Mandarin_HSK6 You didn’t actually lose any words, we just started reporting your statistics differently. Specifically, we started ignoring ‘blocked’ words from your word counts.
Just now, we added this new way of measuring to the ‘historic progress’ columns as well. Unfortunately, this will only affect newly-created historic-progress bars, not the ones in the past. Thanks for this catch!
@Hack-Chinese-Daniel An idea for sometime: It would be nice if you could add more than one word at a time, e.g. similar words like 入,入口,入门。
Makes total sense. I blocked them for a reason
I am back at my laptop and like the new feature: I like it very much that the word is still shown when I pause now. I look up things in Pleco on my phone, often look up the character bricks and write them, and can find out easily which little stroke I missed.
Hi @Hack-Chinese-Daniel, I was wondering what the formula is for when you have “assumed known” words. It seems that once you confirm you know it, they automatically get set for like 300+ days review, is that right?
I’m asking because for some words, I “assume” them just because it’s easier when reviewing HSK lists to automatically add them to my queue (i.e. the “Click to assume known” button rather than having to click through for every word to add to my personal list). I also “assume” full lists sometimes just for ease (similar to the Duolinguo question Manuel asked earlier). For now, if I know its a word I know but not necessarily imprinted in my brain, I just reject when the “assume known” screen comes up regardless so that it gets put into my regular reviews.
I’m not sure if the above is clearly written but hopefully you see my query…
Sorry for the late reply!
When you confirm that you know a word that we assumed you did, we give it an interval that is considerably larger than what you get after learning a word for the first time.
As the number of known words increases, the interval we assign to newly-confirmed words grows.
For example, if you know 100 words total, and you confirm a assumed-known word as known, we’ll give it an interval of about 20 days (which is much more than the typical interval of 0.25 for a new word).
If you know 1,000 words total, and you confirm a word as known, we’ll give it an interval of about 200 days.
The maximum interval we’ll give an assumed known word is about 600 days, which is less than 2 years. That may seem super high, but people with vocabularies that large typically have an average interval of 600 - or greater!
@Hack-Chinese-Daniel, could you please add the Comic Series by Yoyo Chinese: Zhang Ming’s Story?
I’ve read Part 1 already.
Sonija - Do you know if there is a source document for this available anywhere? A vocabulary list on their platform, or a PDF…?
Daniel
I only have the little book, I can send you the vocab list when I am back home next week. Also from book 2 which is waiting there for me. Only if that would be okay for you, of course.
3.5 weeks off hack chinese = 854 reviews for me
. Actually not as bad as I’d feared, thought I might be breaking the 1000 marker
With the 2 step review it is much quicker to get back through them though!
That’s not too bad and quite reassuring to hear! I’ve still only missed 2 days in a year and a half but there’s no doubt at some point this happens to me too!
Having a break is a good thing really. Hope the trip home refreshed your mind a bit Chloe. Was the process getting back into TW easy as a foreigner? Counting down the days until I can get myself back. Still one of the best places I’ve ever been
@Chloe-Mandarin_HSK6 I think I mentioned this above, but the words you still remember longer than predicted will get commensurate increases to their interval – saving you lots of time. Best of luck!
Definitely agree that some time off is useful - both just to have a break and refresh, but also lets your mind consolidate what you’ve learnt in Chinese!
Yeah getting back to TW was fine for me as I have an ARC (Alien
Residency Card) but they still haven’t opened back up to general public yet. Fingers crossed they will start to open up once the vaccination numbers increase!
I want to share a very happy experience with you.
Today I wanted to add the list for Standard Course HSK2 , a book I didn’t use up to now, as I have German HSK books, and I wanted to add the HSK 3.0 list for the very new HSK1 exam.
I didn’t succeed to add and asked Daniel for help. And you know what?
I can’t add the lists, because I am reviewing all the words already.
